Adult Swim's Premier New Show of This Year Secures a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family navigate their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
