Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was sentenced of planning a armed takeover in last fall and sentenced more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after "new facts" emerged.
