Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the American officials has remained silent.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
Officials reported debris fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
