Preview the Revamped Legendary Adventure: This Free Demo for DQ7 Reimagined Arrives Soon.

Players eagerly awaiting the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait the full month. An free-to-play demo version will release on January 7th, offering a sizable glimpse into the game's beginning segments. Notably, any save data made within this demo will be able to be imported directly into the complete game upon its eventual launch.

More Than a Simple Remake: The Thorough Reimagining

This title represents a from-scratch reimagining of the seminal year 2000 JRPG, first known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a notable departure from recent Dragon Quest remakes, such as the previously launched HD-2D iterations, this remake utilizes a striking 3D visual presentation. Environments have been crafted to evoke intricate miniature worlds, with characters having a delightful chibi-esque look.

"Even with the previous remake, the main quest was remained notoriously lengthy. Consequently, the team reached a determination that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this experience for today's gamers."

Key Mechanical Enhancements and Updates

The development team has implemented a host of changes to update the original experience. These include:

  • Streamlined Field Battles: Taking a cue from contemporary role-playing games, low-level foes can now be defeated instantly on the exploration screen without entering a full turn-based battle sequence.
  • Adjustable Combat Speed: Players have the option to accelerate combat animations to rapidly power through less challenging encounters.
  • Expanded Job System: A completely new character role was added for this remake. Furthermore, characters gain the ability to master a secondary vocation, significantly expanding strategic depth.

Such changes are designed to tackle one of the original game's most noted points of feedback: its considerable length. The original adventure was known to take more than 100 hours to complete. The new version has been specifically structured to refine progression and reduce perceived filler.

Save the Calendars: Demo and Full Launch Information

Curious adventurers will be able to start exploring the reimagined world of DQ7 for themselves when the free demo releases on Wednesday, January 7th. Subsequently, the full game, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be set to launch on 5th February 2026. The title will be released on a broad range of platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox.
