The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the time there were no plans for further series.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
