The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
