The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
