The second-hand marketplace Members Share Anger Over Size Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its size classifications for female and kids' apparel failing to inform every member regarding the update.
Digital Channels Backlash
Countless users and merchants are posting online saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification than originally posted because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
It has advised users to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Modifications
Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she stated.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she said.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
